Struggle and failure aren't the end of the journey. It's how you respond to it that matters.
What to do when you fail:
|
- Failing and repeating a class is not the end of your bioengineering career. You can rebound and still graduate with a good GPA. An upward trend in performance can practically erase the impact of early failures in an employer's eyes.
- If you are consistently struggling in courses, you should ask yourself the question "Should I continue as a bioengineering major?" It is important to choose a major that you enjoy and that you have some natural ability for. Changing your major to a different kind of engineering or to a non-STEM could be the best option. You should always consult a trusted faculty member before making this important decision.
Surviving BIOE:
It can be challenging to manage the stress of a high technical course load and engineering extracurriculars along with other obligations. Students can become overwhelmed if they don't take time to focus on their health and well being. Developing a close group of BIOE friends can help make the hours of work more fun and serve as a support system. In addition, there are many campus resources available to help:
Academic Resources:
Engineering undergraduate advising and academic support: Advising for college policies and exceptions, students considering changing their major within engineering Learning Assistance Service: Resources for improving study and time management habits Accessibility & Disability Services Office: Supports students who need academic accommodations |
